Rubbing strips are long linear UHMWPE bars (typically 50 × 100 × 2000 mm) installed vertically along lock gate corners, jetty piles, and inland waterway berthing structures. They protect both the structure and the vessel from corner abrasion during entry/exit.
Steel corner protection chews up vessel paint and requires repainting every 2-3 years. UHMWPE strips slide silently, won't corrode, and are field-replaceable without hot-work permits.
